Nigeria’s federal government has announced plans to accelerate its clean mobility initiatives by seeking private capital, according to a report from BusinessDay. The move comes as part of broader efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote sustainable transportation solutions. The government is targeting investments in electric vehicles and compressed natural gas (CNG) technologies, which are seen as key to achieving environmental and economic goals.
The initiative follows a recent summit focused on clean mobility, where officials emphasized the need for public-private partnerships to drive innovation and infrastructure development. The government is also looking to leverage international funding and expertise to support the transition. This strategy aligns with global trends toward greener transportation and energy efficiency.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s daily gas supply reached 2.05 billion cubic feet (bcf) in the first half of 2026, but it still fell short of targets by 35%, according to data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). To address this gap, the agency has introduced a Gas Swap Framework aimed at improving supply and distribution efficiency. These measures are expected to support both energy security and the clean mobility agenda.
