The investigator was said to be trying to get the sergeant to implicate National Police Commissioner Gen Fannie Masemola. The Madlanga commission also addressed the inclusion of Masemola in the same case as Cat Matlala. Johnson acknowledged that Masemola should not have been joined with Matlala and others but could not explain why the prosecution combined the cases.
